HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR HOME'S AESTHETIC?
A symphony of stories. It’s finally finding its harmony, but it’s always evolving and keeps things interesting. Most everything is either from my travels, estate sales, or thrift markets. I love the story; it creates a sense of romance for me.
YOU'VE STUDIED ARCHITECTURE - WHAT TYPES OF SPACES DO YOU ENJOY DESIGNING?
My practice comes from a psychological standpoint, while integrating nature and sustainability in all aspects. Where the line between natural and built environments become blurred. For example, I’m very much inspired by the sun and the moon and how their position and what activity you’re doing influence one another. I’m interested in the sense of purpose each corner and moment have, getting to go outside to go in, inspiring connection and grounding. A space where you can feel rejuvenated and motivated to live the fullest experience across all functions.
SINCE YOU MOVED HERE FROM BALI, WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO LIVE: BALI OR LA?
I couldn’t choose one over the other. What one has the other doesn’t and vice versa. I’ve found them to be a great balance to one another and each such lessons. And thankfully, the more ideal seasons in each place don’t really overlap so that you can create a routine balancing work and time for self.
WHAT DREW YOU TO TOPANGA CANYON?
The nature, the energy, and the community. I get to drive through that beautiful canyon surrounded by nature to my tucked away cabin every day, and I am so grateful. It’s close to everything yet far enough that you don’t feel the congestion of the city. It’s a true escape in a healthy way, I get to disconnect from “out there” and reconnect with nature and be inspired.
HOW DO YOU STAY CONNECTED TO YOUR NATIVE AMERICAN ROOTS?
During these times of being more difficult to travel, I’ve turned to breathwork to connect with my elder guides, where I receive some direction as to which way to proceed further. In my breathwork, symbols are shown to me in which I’ve been diving deep into research with, learning these symbols’ meanings and stories around as many of the transmissions as possible that are available.
I incorporate these symbols into my hand poke tattoo process as a means of healing and connecting to the ancestors, trying to honor them as best I can.
I’ve also recently been blessed with meeting a few locals from tribes that attend pow wows and other ceremonies that I’m offering myself to for each and every experience to submerse myself in the native world as much as possible.
IF YOU COULD HOST ANYONE FOR DINNER, PAST OR PRESENT, WHO WOULD IT BE?
Does it have to be just one person? I’d invite Alan Watts, Aldous Huxley, and Paul Stamets so that we could devise an existential sustainable plan for life for the future.
WE NOTICED YOUR CAT IN SOME OF THE SHOTS. MORE INFO PLEASE.
That’s my main squeeze right there. She’s such a little badass. We found each other about 3 years ago and she has added such a bright light to my life. She’s like a dog too, she goes on road trips with me, it’s great, she’ll come on walks and hikes with me sans leash. She’s a real homie.
YOUR DRAWINGS ARE AMAZING. DO YOU MAKE TIME TO SKETCH EVERY DAY?
Thank you, I try my best to. It’s something that I’m becoming more and more intimate with each day. I grew up in an artistic household, entered my first contest at age 5 - my art is part of who I am, how I express myself. I was hiding behind fear and didn’t produce too much through most of my 20’s, but I’m finally finding my voice in it and embracing more than ever. Planning my first show by summer!
WHAT DOES "PERFECTLY UNDONE" MEAN TO YOU?
Beauty. Raw and pure beauty. I love wabi-sabi, it’s a term the Japanese came up with a couple centuries ago, and it roughly translates to “appreciating the imperfections as what makes something 'perfect’”. I find a lot of beauty in the darkness, because the darkness is what allows us to see and experience and know the light. To be undone, is to take away the narrative from society and culture of what “done” is, and being raw, being human.
